Hudson Yards is the newest neighborhood in Manhattan, built largely over the rail yards on the far West Side. Glass towers of offices and condos rise around the Vessel and the Shed, the High Line wraps around the rail yards at its northern end, and the 7 train stops at 34th Street-Hudson Yards. The Javits Center sits just to the west. Most of the new towers have their own engineering staff for building systems, but individual condo owners, restaurants and retail tenants still need licensed plumbers for their own spaces.

Walk a block or two east toward Ninth Avenue and the neighborhood looks much older. The West 30s still have tenements, walk-ups, garages and former industrial lofts, many with gas service and steam heat. That is where the classic New York plumbing problems live: corroded risers, tired cellar boilers and building drains that back up. We cover both sides of the neighborhood, with the insurance paperwork new buildings require and the experience old ones need.

Common plumbing issues in Hudson Yards
Leaks in new condo towers
New construction is not leak-proof. A loose fitting under a sink, a failing supply hose or a shower pan problem can send water into the unit below. Building rules usually require a licensed and insured contractor for any repair inside a unit. We provide COIs to the building, find the source with leak detection, and repair it cleanly so the building can sign off.
Tenant fit-outs and backflow
Restaurants and retail spaces in and around Hudson Yards connect to the building water supply through backflow preventers, which must be tested every year. Coffee machines, ice makers and dish machines add more connections that need protection. We install, test and repair backflow devices and keep the test records organized for the tenant and the landlord.
Old cellars on the side streets
On the side streets between Ninth and Tenth Avenues, older walk-ups still rely on steam boilers and gas risers that have seen decades of patching. Gas leaks found during a Local Law 152 inspection, boilers that lose water, and backed up building drains are typical problems here. We handle the repairs, the GPS2 filings and the pressure testing.

Plumbing in Hudson Yards: FAQ
Will a Hudson Yards building let an outside plumber work in my condo?
Most buildings allow it if the contractor is licensed and insured. They typically ask for a certificate of insurance naming the building and managing agent, and sometimes a scope of work. We prepare both ahead of time and follow the building's rules on hours and access.
How often does a restaurant backflow preventer need testing?
In New York City, backflow prevention devices need to be tested once a year by a certified tester, with the results filed. We test, repair or replace the device and keep the records so the restaurant and the landlord stay current.
Do you handle the older buildings near Ninth Avenue too?
Yes. The tenements and walk-ups in the West 30s need gas riser work, Local Law 152 inspections, steam boiler repairs and drain cleaning. We bring the same licensing, insurance and written estimates to an old walk-up as to a new tower.
