Nationwide Plumbers is a NYC-licensed master plumbing company working across Bushwick, the two- and three-family frame and brick row houses on Jefferson Street, Troutman Street, Cornelia Street, and Hancock Street; the walk-up apartment buildings along Knickerbocker, Wyckoff, and Irving Avenues; the mansard-roofed mansions on Bushwick Avenue; the converted industrial lofts around Morgan Avenue, Johnson Avenue, and Flushing Avenue; and the new five- and seven-story construction filling in along Myrtle Avenue and Broadway under the J/M/Z elevated. We hold NYC Master Plumber License #2023, we've worked Brooklyn since 1984, and we run 24/7 out of 6923 8th Avenue.

Bushwick is the most mixed building stock in Brooklyn. On one block you have 1890s wood-frame houses with original cast iron and a house trap in the cellar; two blocks over, a former knitting mill turned into residential lofts where the plumbing was run by whoever was around when the tenants moved in. Add Brooklyn Community District 4's Local Law 152 gas-inspection deadline and a large stock of buildings still working through Loft Board legalization, and the licensing and filing side of the job matters here as much as the wrench work.

Common plumbing issues in Bushwick
Loft conversions with undocumented plumbing. The single most common Bushwick problem we're called into isn't a leak, it's plumbing that was installed without permits during a conversion and now has to be brought into compliance. Kitchens and bathrooms added along an exterior wall with improvised venting, waste tied into an undersized industrial drain, gas run to a range without a certified pressure test. If your building is going through Loft Board legalization or an owner is filing an Alt-1, the plumbing has to be filed by a licensed master plumber and signed off. Retrofitting is more work than doing it right the first time, but it's routine work for us.
Gas piping and Local Law 152. Bushwick sits in Brooklyn Community District 4, which is in the current LL152 inspection cycle, meaning most Bushwick buildings of three units or more have a live filing deadline. Buildings with older black-iron gas piping, or with gas reconfigured during a conversion, are the ones that fail. We inspect, document, and file the report. See our Local Law 152 explainer.
Frame houses and frozen pipes. Bushwick has more wood-frame housing than most of Brooklyn, and frame construction has thinner, less insulated wall cavities than a brownstone. Supply lines run through rear extensions and exterior kitchen walls freeze here in a cold snap when identical lines a mile west don't. If the same pipe freezes every winter, the answer is rerouting or insulating it, not thawing it a fourth time.
Cast iron stacks past their service life. A waste stack in an 1890s Bushwick row house has been in place well over a century. Cast iron corrodes from the inside, so the first symptom is usually a ceiling stain one floor down. In an occupied two- or three-family, this is planned staged work, see cast iron stack repair in Brooklyn row houses.
House traps and slow-draining everything. When every fixture in the house drains slowly at once, the blockage is downstream of all of them, the house trap or the clay lateral to the sewer main. We camera the line and show you the footage before anyone opens a sidewalk.
Top-floor water pressure in walk-ups. The Knickerbocker and Wyckoff Avenue walk-ups still carry original galvanized steel supply risers narrowed by scale. Worst pressure on the top floor, worst in the morning, points at the risers rather than the street main. See low water pressure in Brooklyn buildings.
Landmarked blocks on Bushwick Avenue. The Bushwick Avenue–Center Street Historic District covers part of the mansion stock. Interior plumbing generally isn't Landmarks' concern, but sidewalk excavation for a lateral or a new exterior vent penetration can add an LPC review step alongside DOB and DEP permits. We flag that at the estimate, not mid-job.
Why Bushwick owners, landlords, and boards choose Nationwide Plumbers
- Licensed master plumber. NYC License #2023, permits pulled and filed, gas work pressure-tested and certified. This matters more in Bushwick than almost anywhere, because so much existing work wasn't filed.
- We do the paperwork side. LL152 inspections and filings, DOB plumbing permits, sign-off documentation for legalization and refinancing.
- Mixed stock is our normal work. Frame houses, pre-war walk-ups, and converted industrial buildings all in the same week.
- Diagnosis before demolition. Camera first. We'd rather tell you it's the house trap than sell you a sewer replacement.
- Real 24/7 response, same licensed crew day or night.

Plumbing in Bushwick: FAQ
How fast can you get to a Bushwick emergency?
Typically 35–55 minutes for most Bushwick addresses, day or night, depending on traffic. Call 718-748-2727.
Does my Bushwick building need a Local Law 152 gas inspection?
If it has gas piping and isn't a one- or two-family home, almost certainly yes. Bushwick is in Brooklyn Community District 4, which is in the current inspection cycle. We confirm your exact due date before scheduling.
My loft's bathroom was built without permits. Can you fix that?
Yes. We assess what's there, tell you what has to change to meet code, and file the work under our master plumber license so it can be signed off. This comes up constantly in the Morgan Avenue and Johnson Avenue conversions.
The same pipe freezes every winter. Is there a permanent fix?
Usually yes, rerouting the run out of an uninsulated exterior frame wall, or insulating and heat-tracing it. Thawing it again each January is the expensive option.
Do I need a permit to replace a sewer line in Bushwick?
Yes. Any connection to the NYC public sewer requires a DEP permit and a licensed master plumber. We pull the permit and coordinate the DOT street opening. Interior stack work and house trap removal may require separate DOB plumbing permits.
